Custom Excavator Piling Boom | Turn Your Excavator Into A High-Efficiency Sheet Pile Driver

October 29, 2026

Piling work usually arrives with a second machine attached to it: a dedicated piling rig, a separate mobilization, and a contractor paying for both before the first pile is in the ground. On flood control, drainage and embankment projects, that overhead is often larger than the piling itself.

The STND excavator piling boom removes the second machine from the equation. It converts a 36 to 45 ton excavator into a piling platform, using a straight boom for vertical lift, a short forearm for close control, and a hammer mount matched to that forearm.

Why a Standard Boom Cannot Do Piling Work?

A standard digging boom is curved on purpose. Its geometry is built for reach and breakout force at the bucket, which is exactly the wrong load path for a vibratory hammer hanging on a sheet pile. Mount a hammer on a digging boom and three problems appear: the lift height is reduced, the hammer hangs further from the machine, and the boom carries shock loads it was never laid out for.

The piling boom changes the geometry rather than the machine. A straight boom keeps the lift line vertical, the short forearm brings the hammer close to the carrier, and the pile stays where it was pitched.

What Is an Excavator Piling Boom?

An excavator piling boom is a dedicated front-end configuration for pile handling and pile driving. It consists of a straight boom, a matched short forearm, and a mounting interface for a vibratory piling hammer. It is not a long reach boom, which trades lift capacity for horizontal reach, and it is not a standard boom with a hammer bolted on.

The published configuration drives sheet piles, rail piles, H piles and H steel sheet piles, and is used in foundation work for flood control, dams, drainage pipes, earthworks, earth retaining walls and slope surfaces.

Four Design Points That Decide Pile Quality

1. Straight boom with a short forearm. The boom is laid out for lifting, not digging. A vertical lift line means the pile can be pitched and held plumb, so the hammer drives on axis instead of fighting a leaning pile and re-striking it.

2. Hammer mount matched to the forearm. The curved bracket of the piling hammer connects to the short forearm as a matched pair. The hammer stays close to the machine through the lift, which keeps it controllable during pitching, alignment and driving.

3. Specified materials at the loaded points. Boom and arm plates are high-strength alloy plate. Pipe runs on the arms use national-standard cold-drawn seamless tube. Pins are 40Cr, and the bushings pressed into the boom base are brass and refined copper sleeves. The joints that absorb piling shock are specified for that duty rather than inherited from a digging boom.

4. Welding controlled, then stress relieved. Boom and arm plates are bevel welded, and multiple welding methods are sequenced to avoid local overheating, stress concentration and distortion. After welding, the complete body is shot blasted to relieve internal stress, then ground, painted and inspected before storage.

The published range covers 36 to 45 ton excavator carriers across three boom lengths. Counterweight requirement and front working configuration weight are calculated against the actual carrier and pile type, and are confirmed at quotation rather than taken from a generic table.

Transport height between 3.1 and 3.38 m is worth checking early. On low-clearance sites, bridge restrictions and container or flat-rack planning, it is frequently the dimension that decides which length is practical.

Where the Piling Boom Earns Its Cost?

Flood control and embankment works: Sheet pile cut-off walls and bank reinforcement where access for a dedicated rig is limited.

Dams, reservoirs and drainage: Trench sheeting for drainage pipes and culverts, plus earth retaining walls.

Slope and earth protection: Pile installation along slopes and protection structures where the carrier must work from an existing bench.

Rail and infrastructure foundations: Rail piles, H piles and H steel sheet piles for track and structural support work.

How to Specify a Piling Boom?

A piling boom is matched, not selected from a catalogue. Send the following and the configuration can be fixed in one round:

Carrier: brand, model, operating weight, and existing boom and arm dimensions with pin diameters.

Pile: pile type, length, weight per pile, and the required piling depth.

Hammer: hammer model, operating weight and mounting bracket dimensions.

Hydraulics: available flow and pressure at the hammer circuit.

Site: transport height limits, overhead clearance, ground bearing and operating radius.

Why Choose STND Machinery?

Shandong Tiannuo Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. was founded in 2014 and builds from its own plant in Jining, Shandong, with a technical team carrying more than ten years of excavator retrofitting experience. Alongside the piling boom, the engineering arm range covers extension arms, three-section arms, grab arms, rock arms, tunnel arms and standard booms and arms, which means the front-end geometry is designed around the carrier rather than adapted from a single stock pattern.

Custom work follows a fixed sequence: design against the working environment and operating requirement, raw material selection, manufacture to drawing, then installation, commissioning and maintenance support after delivery.

Send your excavator model, required piling depth, pile type and hammer data for a matched proposal. Shandong Tiannuo Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. is located at 369 Deyuan Road, Jining High-tech Zone, Jining City, Shandong Province, China.
